Civil War Memorial to Albert Woolson, Duluth, Minn.

This memorial to Albert Woolson is located in Duluth, Saint Louis County, Minnesota. Woolson was a Civil War Drummer Boy and the last surviving veteran of the Union Army.

The marker and statue are located at the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center, 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth, MN (at the intersection of Michigan Street and 6th Avenue West, on the right when traveling east on Michigan Street).

The plaque reads:

The 7' 2.5" high statue is made of patinated bronze. The artist who produced the life-sized sculpture of a seated Woolson in all his dignity was Dr. Avard Tennyson Fairbanks, a prolific sculptor with notable works including one of Lincoln. A twin of this statue is located at Gettysburg National Military Park.

When Woolson passed, the GAR died with him as there were no more members alive. he was buried at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth.
