Wisconsin's Civil War Memorials
Fir Tree Memorial, Berry, Mazomanie County, Wis.

In Berry, Wisconsin, a living memorial of 38 fir trees were planted in October 1931, by the Women's Club on the east side of Cty Trk K (this is now Hwy 19 and Old Settlers Rd). Metal tags, each with the name of a man from Co. A of the 11th Wisconsin Infantry under Capt. Hall, was nailed to a tree. This is all that remains of the 38 trees. The metal tags have disappeared many years ago. All that remains are 3 trees.

Read a 1981 newspaper article about the tree planting project and the soldiers who were commemorated by this memorial.
