DeRoy Eaton

(Obituary from The Kingston Spy, 8 Feb. 1945)

DeRoy Eaton, Columbia County’s last Civil War Veteran, who has been making his home in Pardeeville with his daughter, Mrs. Henry Cruckson, passed away last Sunday, after reaching the remarkable age of 102.

Eaton kept abreast with the news of the world, reading the daily papers without glasses until after he had passed the 100 year mark. He attributed his longevity to the fact that he never had indulged in liquor or tobacco.

Deroy Eaton enlisted at White Creek in Co. H, 11th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry on Sep. 25, 1864. He mustered out on Sep. 4, 1865.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at Pardeeville.
